From the Liverpool Echo:
Jonas Gutierrez has thanked Liverpool supporters for the reception he received at Anfield on Monday night.
The Newcastle midfielder was given a standing ovation when introduced as a second-half substitute during his side’s 2-0 defeat. Gutierrez was making his fifth appearance since returning to the side, having undergone successful treatment for testicular cancer.
This is pure class from the Liverpool fans. Moments like this are what makes you proud to be a fan of a team. If you hadn’t known already, Jonas Gutierrez has long been battling testicular cancer and it has been a very difficult struggle for him so for him to be recognized for his courage is very special. A lot of the humanity has been taken out of football recently with the large injection of money and prestige so it is nice to see moments such as this. Congratulations Jonas you deserve every bit of applause you get for your bravery.
