The world renown Viareggio Cup World Football Tournament (otherwise known as La Coppa Carnevale) takes place every year during the Carnival celebration in the town of vareggio in the province of Luca along the scenic tuscan coast of Italy. This is a mens tournament hosting the ages of 17 through 21 with many academy team participating such as AC Milan, Fiorentina, Roma, Juventus, Ajax and even USA’s own L.I.A.C.- New York. Both Italian and international players have participated in this tournament such as Roberto Baggio, Paolo Maldini, Francesco Totti, Alex Del Piero, Mario Balotelli, Edison Cavani, Gabriel Batistutta, edison cavani and Ciro Immobile to name a few. The goal of the tournament is obviously to gain notoriety on a club level by winning the famous tournament. However, the most prestigious award is known as the Golden Boy, which is awarded to the tournament’s top performers. A recent notable winner from the past few years was Borusia Dortmund’s Ciro Immobile in 2010. The 67th instalment of the tournament is officially underway and so far the net has been fairly easy to find. The most notable goal from day 1 was from Fiorentina primavera (academy) midfielder Luzayadio “Andy” Bangu. This particular goal is every player’s dream regardless of position – Perfect bike into the upper 90 to break a stalemate and win the game . Although the goal occurred in the 48th minute,Fiorentina goes on to defeat Nordsjaellen FC of Denmark. Check back for updates as the tournament progresses!
