Jurgen Klinsmann Announces 25-Man Roster For Colombia And Ireland Games

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)

Defenders: DaMarcus Beasley (Houston Dynamo), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt), Greg Garza (Club Tijuana), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Monchengladbach), Jermaine Jones (New England Revolution), DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle Sounders FC)

Midfielders: Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), Julian Green (Hamburg), Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt), Lee Nguyen (New England Revolution)

Forwards: Jozy Altidore (Sunderland), Miguel Ibarra (Minnesota United FC), Jordan Morris (Stanford), Rubio Rubin (Utrecht), Bobby Wood (1860 Munich), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

My thoughts on this roster:

  • Miguel Ibarra and Jordan Morris get their second call-ups and I hope they get some playing time. It would be very interesting to see what they are capable of since we as fans don’t get to see them at practice.
  • The Jermaine Jones center-back experiment looks to be continuing and I don’t see the point. He won’t play in the next World Cup so why waste the time? We’d be better off at finding out our two center-backs for the next World Cup and giving them as many minutes as possible to improve their comfort with each other. Trusting your fellow center-back is the most important factor in insuring that your defense is built on a solid foundation.
  • Kyle Beckerman, seriously? Another player who is too old to factor into our next World Cup so I think it is useless to waste a roster spot on him.
  • Lee Nguyen earned this call-up but will he and DeAndre Yedlin have a chance to play considering they are both in the middle of an MLS playoff race?
  • If Jozy Altidore wants to impress potential suitors who may come calling during the January transfer window then he needs to play very well and score some goals during these international fixtures since he isn’t getting the chance to impress for Sunderland as he sits on the bench.

Stir Up the Pot!
